Having a class set of iPads is truly a wonderful asset for my classroom. I am constantly finding ways to utilize the iPads during math, science, and social studies instruction. However, I have been very interested in finding ways to encourage literacy skill building in a different way. This website has many great resources to use in my classroom. I am very interested to see what sort of impact iPads would have on students who are not fond of reading. I feel that by presenting literature in various ways would be beneficial to students. I highly suggest reading this short article and using their ideas within the classroom.
Hi Lauren,
ReplyDeleteI am sure for some students reading with an iPad would be more fun and interesting than reading a real book. I took a look at the article that you blogged about and most of the activities are geared for elementary age students. I don't have an iPad but the community college that I work at just got a cart of 24 iPads and faculty are allowed to check them out for the remainder of this semester. I am interested in taking up this opportunity because I am interested in learning how to use an iPad and how I could potentially use iPads in my classroom. If I do get to check one out I think I will try some of the reading activities from the article that you mentioned with my daughter. I think she would like the stories and I might learn something about the technology.
Thanks for sharing the information,
-Sam
